The Place de la Bastille is a square in Paris, where the Bastille prison stood until it was stormed and subsequently torn down between July 14, 1789 and July 14, 1790 during the French Revolution.

Place de la Bastille

The square straddles 3 arrondissements of Paris, namely the 4th, 11th and 12th.

At the centre of the square is the July Column (Colonne de Juillet) which commemorates the events of the July Revolution (1830). On the square there is also the Opera Bastille and the Bastille metro station.

The square is a popular venue for Parisians and tourists, and it is often home to concerts and other such events. The area northeast of bastille has a lively night life, with many cafés, bars, night clubs, and concert halls.
